Toasted Quinoa

The texture and nutty flavour of toasted quinoa make a particularly good substitute for a nut topping, suitable for Nut Free diets.



Quinoa is a grain that is very high in protein, making it a nutritious addition to vegetarian and vegan diets. It is quite bland in flavour when boiled; however, toasting results in a truly nutty flavour.

Diets for which Toasted Quinoa is suitable:

Diabetic, Diary Free, Fodmap, Gluten Free, Low Fat, Low Calorie, Nut Free, Vegetarian and Vegan.

Ingredients

Preparation: 5 mins | Cooking: 10-15 mins | Serves: 1 cup

1 cup quinoa


Method

SOAK the quinoa in water for 5 minutes.
DRAIN the quinoa in a sieve and rinse under the tap for a few of minutes until the water runs clear.
HEAT a frying pan or wok to a medium heat.
ADD the quinoa and stir continuously for 5-10 minutes as it toasts, develops a brown colour and becomes aromatic. (The colour of the toasted quinoa will not be evenly brown.)

Serve

– Use to replace nuts as a topping, eg on fruit, yoghurt, salad
