Grilled Peaches in Ham

‘Angels on Horseback’: canapes or a treat in your picnic box when following a Gluten Free, Low Calorie or Paleo diet.

My mother used to make ‘Devils on Horseback’, prunes wrapped in bacon, although now ‘out of vogue’; this is not dissimilar. Like the prunes, the peach caramelises slightly when grilled and is complimented by the salty prosciutto ham.

They are good finger foods for any party; and they can be cooked on the barbecue and served at a more casual event.

The number of serves is dependant on the size of your peaches.

Diets for which Grilled Peaches in Ham are suitable:

Dairy Free, Diabetic, Gluten Free, Low Calorie, Low Fat, Nut Free, and Paleo.


Preparation: 10 mins |Cooking: 10 mins|Serves: 32 pieces

4 peaches, medium ripe and firm*
16 slices prosciutto
1 tbsp olive oil
1 tsp cracked pepper


PREHEAT the grill to medium-hot.
HALVE the peaches, remove the stone and slice each half into 4 (more slices if large peaches).
CUT the prosciutto slices into half.
WRAP each piece of peach in prosciutto and season with pepper. (There should be no need to use toothpicks to hold the prosciutto on place.)
GREASE a baking tray and place on the wrapped peach pieces.
GRILL for 3 minutes and check (when cooked the prosciutto will colour slightly although not become crisp).
TURN and grill on the other side.


– Eat immediately; or chill and serve with a mixed lunch platter; or take in a picnic box.


* Substitute nectarine.
