Chocolate Sauce

The essential chocolate sauce for all occasions and most diets including Dairy Free, Diabetic, Paleo and Vegan.

With few but tasty ingredients, this is a chocolate sauce to include in any healthy diet, in moderation of course. Like most foods of quality, a little goes a long way.

In the proportions recommended, the sauce will be thick at room temperature. Thin it with a little heat, more syrup or by adding a little water. For a diabetic diet, the maple syrup may be appropriate when it is eaten in a small quantity. Alternatively, replace the syrup with stevia and water in equal proportions, ie 1tbsp:1tbsp.

Diets for which Chocolate Sauce is suitable:

Dairy Free, Diabetic, Fodmap, Gluten Free, Nut Free, Paleo, Vegan and Vegetarian.


Preparation: 5 mins | Cooking: 5 mins| Serves: 1/3 cup approx

3 tbsp coconut oil*
3 tbsp cocoa powder (or cacao)
1 tbsp maple syrup**
1 tsp vanilla


MELT the coconut oil.
SIFT the cocoa.
COMBINE all ingredients.
COOL and the sauce will thicken (it will solidify in the refrigerator).


– Store refrigerated. For a pouring consistency heat or add a little water.
– Use for chocolate drinks.
– Pour over fresh or frozen fruit or any dessert requiring a chocolate sauce.


* Substitute with cacao butter.
** Substitute with stevia (ratio 1:1) for Diabetic diets or corn syrup for others.
